Her strong focus on upskilling her staff helped provide an unmatched experience to guests at the resort.
I am Dương Thị Huyền and I founded Mai Chau Hideaway Resort in April 2018. During my tenure in the tourism industry, I was asked about offbeat tourist destinations in Vietnam. One time, I visited Mai Chau – a mountainous area in Hoa Binh province where many Vietnamese ethnic tribes such as Hoa, Mong, Muong, and Thai lived together, and it instantly caught my attention. I loved the location and, at that point, the landlord for the homestay was looking for a buyer. I jumped at the opportunity and bought the homestay. I turned it into Mai Chau Hideaway.
Most employees working at the resort are local ethnic people.
The resort boasts a unique architecture of a traditional Vietnamese house. The resort is spread over an area of 1.5 hectare and is surrounded by mountains, a lake and many Vietnamese ethnic groups. The guests staying in the resort not only enjoy a picturesque view but can also immerse themselves in cultural experiences.
She pays special attention to upskilling her staff.
The property has 32 rooms with 47 employees of which, 42 of them are working in the resort. 99% of employees, who are working in the resort, are local ethnic people. They work together harmoniously to ensure the guests receive the best experience in terms of service.
As much as I want the patrons to have a memorable time at the resort, I play equal attention to the well-being of my staff members. I collaborate with various tourist organizations to provide training for the team to improve their skills. I also invite eminent personalities from the ethnic groups for talks so that the team stays motivated and is confident about its potential.
She gives back to the community by inviting interns from local colleges to her resort.
The past two years have been hard on everyone around the world, but we are trying to get back to normalcy. In 2022, I plan to use the supporting programs granted by The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to get my employees trained with Ha Noi Hospitality and Tourism College. Besides, we are keen on welcoming 4 intern students from Thai Nguyen University. Lastly, I plan to add 20 more rooms to the property so that we can entertain more guests.
