Sense and Sustainability
"Surround yourself with positive people including other entrepreneurs, as there will be many times your family and friends won't understand your business journey."
Jennifer Nini is a writer, activist and the Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Eco Warrior Princess, a multi-contributor website about sustainable living, social justice and ethical fashion. The name Eco Warrior Princess was inspired by Jennifer’s experiences in both rural and urban settings, from living in a solar-powered off-the-grid shed for two years, to her time in lively Melbourne.
An outspoken activist, Jennifer’s ethos centers around inspiring and educating people towards positive action.
She speaks through her writing and promotes feminism, social justice, politics, ethical business, and sustainability.
From blog to business
An initial blog turned into a business when Jennifer realised that ethical and sustainable companies were looking to promote their brands and needed help with advertising and marketing.
As her blog readership grew, Jennifer started charging for sponsored posts and for her copywriting skills.
“I want to inspire people to think critically and to motivate them to take action to make this world a better, kinder, fairer and greener place,” she says.
With the launch of Eco Warrior Princess, Jennifer knew that in order to keep up with content demands, she would need a team of writers. She subsequently opened the website up to guest contributors.
Social media for social change
Jennifer uses Facebook to educate her followers about climate change, sustainable living, organic food, mindful eating, social justice issues, and green politics.
“I also host a group on Facebook called ‘Mindful Boss Ladies’ as I wanted to connect with like-minded business owners and entrepreneurs who care about making a difference,” she adds.
Jennifer also relies on Instagram to inspire people through original images she captures of her sustainable lifestyle.
The ultimate goal
Jennifer aims to have the number one online publishing platform promoting stylish, eco-friendly living. With a supportive fiancé helping with business development and a team of passionate writers, she says, she is “freed up to work on building a range of digital products that will help me to increase readership and sales.”
Jennifer is using her time to create e-books and a sustainability course to help people on their journey to greener living.
Entrepreneurial mantras to live by
Jennifer shares four top tips to live by for both work and life:
- “Do something you are passionate about and that gives you a higher purpose; a purpose other than just making money.”
- “Delegate and outsource work if and when you can – particularly if you are looking to scale quickly. Focusing ‘on’ your business rather than just working ‘in’ your business will help it to growfaster.”
- “Make time for self-care as the entrepreneurial journey can lead to burn out if you’re not careful. I practice meditation daily and often do so in the mornings as it helps set the tone for the day.”
- “Surround yourself with positive people including other entrepreneurs as there will be many times your family and friends won’t understand your business journey. I have a community of like-minded people who are a constant source of support for me, particularly when I need advice.”
