Meet Archana & Nivedita

Giving city kids a taste of village life

It's more about appreciating the people around us

“If you don’t know the village”, tells Archana, co-founder of Dirty Feet, “you don’t know India.”

And this, perhaps, is the defining statement behind their inspiration for starting Dirty Feet. Archana and her fellow co-founder Nivedita started Dirty Feet in 2012 with the idea of connecting urban kids to rural areas to expose them to rural life, rural culture, most specifically rural livelihoods.

With the fast pace of change in India, they feared that people living in urban areas were losing touch with the real India. “In my previous job when I was interacting with funding organizations when I was interacting with the donors,” recalls Archana, “I realized there’s a huge disconnect between the people who have money and who want to give for a good cause and the person who actually needs it.”

Their company is dedicated to taking kids from the city and exposing them to a way of life they may rarely see. To get a firsthand look at the lives of the farmers and artisans they’d never otherwise see. All with the goal of educating and enlightening a generation of future business leaders and decision makers.
