Meet Jane

Friendship, family and fortitude

I think my advice would be to work hard and have persistence. That is more than half the battle won.

If you ask Jane Goh what her biggest achievement in life is, she will immediately say – her family. Along with facing the many challenges of being a working mother, Jane has been able to nurture her family, as well as found and run one of Singapore’s most trusted businesses for the past 30 years.

Supported by her family and friends, Jane has successfully juggled both personal and professional commitments since establishing premium paper manufacturer and distributor, RJ Paper. The grandmother of seven has been at the helm of the Singapore-based company for decades, supplying businesses and individuals alike with the canvas onto which they can project their inner creativity.

Going beyond business

When Jane founded RJ Paper in 1987, Singapore and Malaysia’s economies were entering a boom. A rise in demand for graphic design and printing presented the perfect opportunity for Jane to build her business.

With paper a core element of her business, and one heavily influenced by economic fluctuations, Jane consistently searches for ways to diversify. As part of this, she dedicates herself to researching new product areas, design models and markets, branching into fields like packaging, museum board and manufacturing contracts. This has allowed Jane to better service her existing clients, and to engage with an entirely new audience.

Expansion is vital, however from the very start it was important to Jane that she look beyond just supply and demand. There is a higher awareness that drives RJ Paper and a sense of responsibility that means they only work with mills and suppliers that are environmentally friendly and FSC approved. In addition to her sustainability efforts, Jane is a passionate supporter of the arts and strives to assist artists and up-and-coming graphic designers in expressing their creative vision.

‘Mama Jane’

Beyond supporting designers and the next wave of Singaporean talent, Jane wants to inspire those around her to succeed. With nearly three decades in business, she knows there are always challenges and that overcoming hurdles requires persistence and dedication. For Jane, it was an inner belief in herself and in the company she was creating that drove her forward and ultimately to succeed.

It is this sense of determination Jane is committed to inspiring in others. A champion for the advancement of other entrepreneurs, especially women, she constantly seeks to provide education and mentorship to those hoping to follow in her footsteps. This passion has earned her the moniker of ‘Mama Jane’, a testament to her loving and nurturing spirit.

Mother, mentor, mogul

A maternal figure to colleagues and customers alike, Jane is also devoted to her family. Her daughter Janette works alongside her at RJ Paper, and Jane credits her adoring family as the biggest personal achievement of her life.

Instead of making the impossible choice between her business and family, Jane has been able to balance her commitments and put them both at the centre of everything she does. Two generations of the Goh family have grown up within the RJ Paper business, and even Jane’s father and grandfather have played a key role in making the company what it is today.

Inspired by her previous colleague, Jardine Offshore President Steven Roszel, Jane has a deep and constant passion for championing the needs of her employees. As a mentor, Jane does more than just encourage others to pursue their professional aspirations. She is also dedicated to helping create a supportive work environment that allows employees to balance their work and family commitments, just as she has been able to do.

Through dedication and passion, Jane Goh strives to give her best in all she does, providing a blank canvas for others to create their own masterpiece.
