Sabha Farhan has always been drawn to design and problem-solving. So much so, that in 2015 she founded two design-led businesses—despite having a regular job that she also continues doing to this day. “I’m driven by the desire for freedom, independence and financial security,” she explains. “That encourages me to give my best and achieve more in life.”
Building multiple businesses
While Sabha’s two businesses are distinctly different to each other, they’re both based on her love for design—in this case, architectural interior design and graphic design. Sabha Design is her interiors brand and Logo Design is where she helps other entrepreneurs create memorable and distinctive visual brands.
Like many businesses, Sabha Design and Logo Design started small, with Sabha testing out her services on family and friends before offering them more widely. “In the beginning, because I wanted to offer a service that would be fast and high quality, I started using a design process the moment I got the request from the client,” Sabha recalls. But this led to her first major challenge as a businesswoman. “Some clients failed to pay me,” Sabha explains. She swiftly created a partial pre-payment policy that safeguarded her time and effort on projects in the future.
But for problem-solver Sabha, these kinds of challenges couldn’t deter her—in fact, she sees them as a necessary learning curve. “Part of the journey of success is in facing the challenges, overcoming them and being stronger and tougher as you grow your business,” she explains.
Sabha knew that her ideal customer looks for class, elegance and simplicity. And, having made her own journey as a start-up, Sabha also knows what’s important to others who are starting out in business. Social media has helped her identify, understand and connect with customers, as well as allowing Sabha to showcase her projects in one place—and then share them far and wide.
Instagram in particular has proven to be a natural home for Sabha’s designs, whether it’s posting interiors inspiration or showcasing her latest new designs for brands. And thanks to social media, she also regularly receives requests for her work from across the world. “It doesn’t get better than that!” Sabha laughs.
In the future, Sabha dreams of growing her businesses, extending the Logo Design service portfolio and even opening a physical store for Sabha Design. “What makes business interesting is not knowing where you’ll land.”
Designing her own success
Two years since starting out as an entrepreneur, Sabha still enjoys the challenge of holding down a day job while building two businesses of her own. Time management is the secret to her success, she says, admitting that every day is scheduled in detail, with nothing left to chance.
Sabha believes that the rewards far outweigh the downsides. “You do have to deal with unknowns,” she acknowledges. “How long will my business exist? How profitable will I be? Will clients like my work? You won’t always have an immediate, reliable answer, but you just have to keep going and develop as you grow. Nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself.”
