In 2008, after holding a number of senior human resources and consulting roles across the globe, Sonia decided to return back home to Australia and focus on her family.
As a full-time solo mum with just $2,000 in the bank she had two choices—to return to her 9-to-5 job or try and build something bigger, something that was her own. Deciding on the latter, Sonia seized the opportunity and went for it.
“I reinvented myself and jumped off the cliff,” she says.
Living her passion
Inspired by her daughter, and buoyed by a belief in her purpose, Sonia launched LeadershipHQ which started as a blog and has grown into a company . LeadershipHQ stands for empowerment, passion and result. Through her work, Sonia helps build future leaders who she hopes will make a difference to the world.
Sonia says she feels so lucky to have found something she is truly passionate about. “I love leadership, I live and breathes leadership. I love to make a difference, and leadership is my why,” she says.
An unwavering belief
As a full-time solo mum, launching a business was incredibly scary, and Sonia found herself racked with doubt. “What happens if I fail? What happens if I can’t provide for my daughter?”
Sonia admits her greatest challenge was herself. The idea of failure made her decision one of the hardest choices of her life. However, her strong self-belief and the idea of creating a future for her family gave her the courage to just go for it.
“I truly believe in my purpose and passion. I believe in myself and I know I am creating and building an amazing company that is making a difference,” says Sonia.
Empowering others through social media
Sonia loves to share her knowledge to empower, educate and inspire others. She says both Facebook and Instagram have been powerful platforms for this. She recently posted a video of a keynote speech, which attracted 1,500 views, and earned her a paid follow-up engagement.
Sonia’s now working on her next challenge—writing books on leadership attitude, and building a keynote speaking platform. “We’re going to rock the world in leadership,” Sonia says.
Her advice for anyone looking at going out on their own: “Focus on what makes you rock and go for it. You only live once so follow your dreams.”
