If you’d told Rosie Mazumder that she’d quit her city job in banking to start her own business, she wouldn’t have believed you. But that’s exactly what she did.
When she hit a roadblock with the cupcake decorating classes she ran as a hobby in her village hall, she decided to take action. “I couldn’t get people to come to the classes, so I started a Facebook page instead,” explains Rosie. “Very quickly there was this big community of like-minded people who were baking or learning to decorate cakes themselves.”
One of the most popular features of the page, Rosie found, was the spotlight she shone on the amazing cakes her community members had created. Celebrating each other’s skill and sharing practical tips and ‘how to’ guides subsequently became the foundation for Cake Masters magazine, a monthly digital and online publication. And the baking world took quickly Cake Masters to its heart; the Facebook community is now close to one million people and the annual Cake Masters awards have even been dubbed ‘the cake Oscars’.
Rosie and her husband Yawar have grown the Cake Masters brand together and the publication is now available in over 44 countries. Rosie’s passion remains a driving force for Cake Masters magazine—and so does the community. As Rosie puts it, “it’s all about celebrating talent.”
